I open my eyes to be blinded by the harsh ray of sunlight streaming through the sheer curtains. My body feels warm, enveloped in the heat of another, and as my senses fully awaken, I realize why. A strong arm is wrapped tightly around my waist, securing me in place. My breath hitches as I slowly turn my head to see Xavier sleeping peacefully beside me.
His face is impossibly serene, his features relaxed in a way I rarely get to see when he’s awake. He always carries himself with an air of control, exuding confidence and arrogance in equal measure. But right now, in sleep, he looks different—unguarded, vulnerable even. His long lashes rest against his cheeks, his lips slightly parted, and his dark hair is tousled in a way that makes him seem softer, almost boyish.
